Respite Services

Respite Services

The 'focus' respite program has been established to provide respite for families of people with a disability, within the age range of 5-65 years, who are eligible for service though the Disability Act 2006.

"Respite provides short term and time limited breaks for families on a planned or emergency basis, to support and maintain the primary carer relationship while providing a positive experience for the person with a disability".

Respite means providing parents or carers with a break from their usual caring role and it can take many different forms depending on the needs of individuals and the funding available.

Respite services currently offered by 'focus' are:

Saturday Respite Program:

Art/Drama and Community Based activities using a person-centred approach, Saturdays 10am – 3pm.

Weekend Camps:

In partnership with the YMCA, camps are held every 3 months. Through these camps, we seek to give participants a fun filled and exciting weekend away, by providing stimulating activities within a safe environment. The camps commence on Friday evening and conclude on Sunday afternoon.

Holiday Respite:

The 'focus' holiday cottage is situated in a 'leafy' and quiet part of Dromana, less than a 10 minute walk to the beautiful Dromana Beach, and only 15 minutes walk to the shopping complex. It is within close proximity of wineries, restaurants, bushwalks, beaches and other attractions along the Mornington Peninsula. The cottage is available to book all year round at reasonable rates. The aim is to give people with a disability the opportunity to have a holiday with family, on the Mornington Peninsula. Support is available and can be tailored to the persons needs. 'focus' staff can relieve family members for periods of time during the day if required, to enhance the holiday experience. This respite option is available to people aged between 5-65 years, who have an intellectual, physical or sensory disability and live at home with a carer or with family. We can also provide support to carers/families visiting the Mornington Peninsula with alternative accommodation plans.

In Summary:

We can assist with a variety of planned and flexible, age appropriate activities for individuals or small to medium sized groups, depending on the wishes of the person.
